Barry Solomon, MD, MPH — Contributing Investigator

Barry Solomon, MD, MPH, is Associate Professor in the Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine in the School of Medicine where he is the medical director of the Harriet Lane Clinic (HLC), the main primary care training site for pediatric residents and medical home to about 8,500 infants, children, and adolescents in the East Baltimore community.  He also directs well-received programs that have co-located a senior mental health clinician in the HLC and several therapists who provide on-site treatment.  He has also instituted screening and on-site treatment for caregivers experiencing postpartum depression and those exposed to intimate partner violence.  He serves as the medical director for Health Leads Baltimore, a national organization that places college students in primary care clinics to link patients and families with community resources.  Dr. Solomon is an associate director for the pediatric residency program and he co-directs a required 2-week mental health rotation.  In the rotation, residents participate in primary care mental health assessments in the HLC and work side-by-side with mental health professionals in a variety of other ambulatory and inpatient settings.  Dr. Solomon is the Center’s liaison to the HLC and a consultant on resident and medical student training that integrates mental health and pediatric primary care.  He is participating in the Baltimore area testing of web-based mental health screening tool (Research Methods Core Project 3).
