Government and Community Affairs (GCA) sponsors and hosts a number of community based events throughout the year.
SNF Agora Institute video was recorded December 17, 2020. Maryland State Senator Cory McCray introduces and is the moderator for this segment highlighting the SNF Agora Institute with Steve Ruckman, Deputy Director of the Institute. The Institute is a multi disciplinary academic and public forum dedicated to strengthening global democracy through civic engagement.
Applied Physics Lab STEM Program video was recorded November 19, 2020. Maryland Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary introduces and is the moderator for this segment highlighting the Applied Physics Lab STEM Program with Dwight Carr, STEM Outreach Program Manager for APL. The program targets children starting in kindergarten to create a continuum to STEM careers for Maryland students.
Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center video was recorded October 22, 2020. Maryland Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes introduces and is the moderator for this segment highlighting the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center with Dina George Lansey, Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion and Clinical Research for the Center.
Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures video was recorded September 24, 2020. Maryland State Senator Malcolm Augustine introduces and is the moderator for this segment highlighting the Johns Hopkins Technology Ventures (JHTV) with Christy Wyskiel, Sr. Advisor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of JHTV. JHTV is the division of Johns Hopkins that facilitates the commercialization of academic discoveries into real world products and services.
Community Conversations (Homewood)
Community Conversations has been a Hopkins tradition for over forty-five years and serves as a forum for leadership from the public and private sectors, foundations, non-profits, institutions, the community, and political affiliates to discuss their common interest and goals for Baltimore City and the region. The event is held the first Thursday morning in April and May (Spring Series); and October and November (Fall Series). Community Conversations (East Baltimore)
Community Conversations are semi-annual community meetings co-hosted by Johns Hopkins Medicine and GCA with community leaders to share Johns Hopkins news and information and receive community input. In 2017 events were held in June and October. Key issues discussed included mental health and trauma response, job readiness and employment opportunities, and shared space and community schools.
