Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund

Neighborhood Fund Flier

The Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund was created in 2007 from the vision of then university President William R. Brody to support nonprofit organizations that both serve the communities in close proximity to Hopkins campuses and are associated with Johns Hopkins through employee and / or institutional involvement.

Designations made to the Johns Hopkins Neighborhood Fund assist local nonprofit organizations' efforts to build stronger neighborhoods by addressing needs in areas of:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Public Safety
  • Employment
  • Community Strengthening

In addition to serving these needs, organizations that receive funding must provide services within pre-designated geographic boundaries, agree to use or return funds by the end of the calendar year in which they are awarded, and comply with other disbursement and reporting requirements. Other requirements are detailed on the 2009 Neighborhood Fund Grant Application completed by recipients.

A committee of Johns Hopkins employees, chaired by Frank Bossle, Executive Director of JHI Internal Audits, oversees the allocation of the fund. The fund is coordinated by the Office of Faculty, Staff and Retiree Programs, as part of the annual Johns Hopkins campaign for United Way of Central Maryland.
