Campus Ministries hosts a service project each month called Sandwich Sunday - we make 125 really nice lunches for a organization called STAR (Sisters Together And Reaching). STAR is a community-based non-profit that serves people with HIV-disease. Contact Kathy Schnurr, Assistant Chaplain to get involved. (usually at the Glass Pav) The American Red Cross hosts several blood drives throughout the year. Contact John Black at 410-516-0138 for information about volunteering. The Baltimore Museum of Art seeks volunteers in the Division of Education & Interpretation. Volunteers must be reliable and enjoy working with people, children, or in education. The volunteer will monitor the rentals of the ART + FUN PACKS (self-guided family activities where you can dress up, sketch, or listen to music) during the hours of 11-noon on Thursdays. We are flexible with the amount of hours you can contribute in order to fullfill your community service requirements. For example, additional administrative tasks or educational duties can be assigned before or after the hours stated above. Weekend hours are also available.
To get involved email Julie Lin at the BMA or call 443-573-1824. The Priceless Gown Project was created in an effort to help young women attend their prom who would not be able to finance the experience on their own. Prom is a significant milestone in the life of a young woman and you can help create this priceless memory. Help us send these girls to prom with elegance and style! Donate your formal attire, volunteer your time or make a financial contribution. Are you interested in organizing a GROUP to volunteer on site? Please contact Karen Edsell to find out about scheduling and organizing a group. Volunteer days (especially Saturdays) fill up quickly; please be prepared to plan ahead. Large groups should schedule several months in advance of the desired build date. All volunteers must bring a completed waiver form with them to the construction site. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age (as of June 1, 2004) . Minor volunteers under the age of 18 must have their waiver signed by a parent or guardian and be accompanied by an adult (over 21 years old). Adults accompanying minors should plan to provide transportation and stay for the entire workday. If you are organizing a group of youth, please ask for a copy of our Youth Policy. We provide all necessary tools and equipment. Volunteers may bring their own simple tools (no power tools please) as long as they are clearly labeled. Dust masks, goggles, and other specialty items are available at the construction site. For more information, call Karen Edsell at 410-366-1250 or e-mail karene@chesapeakehfh.org. In an effort to maximize nighttime visibility, the University is working with area neighborhoods on a "Light Up the Night" program, encouraging homeowners to keep their porch lights on. The district and the Abell, Charles Village, Harwood and Old Goucher neighborhood associations are all part of the project. Student groups are needed to help distribute and install the "Light Up the Night" bulbs.
