MINUTES
September 10, 2007

I. Call to Order/Attendance

a. Chapters in attendance - Alpha Delta Phi, Alpha Epsilon Pi, Beta Theta Pi, Lambda Phi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon
b. Absent chapters - Delta Upsilon Colony, Phi Gamma Delta

II. Blood Drive, September 19 & 20 (Wed & Thurs), Glass Pavilion

a. Wear Letters
b. Possibly raffle drawings for prizes

III. Ravens Ticket Lottery

a. Students only; sign up in Levering 100
b. Tickets sold in pairs; $25 each (so $50 for the pair) (10 tickets total)
c. Must purchase tickets by Thursday by 5 pm in Levering 100
d. The lottery is free to enter.  If you win, that is when you pay

IV. Social Event Reporting

a. Report parties to the website web.jhu.edu/studentprograms/eventreport.html as far in advance as possible
b. Does not get relayed to security, only Carrie Bennett
c. Our goal is to get Greek life on better terms with our community

V. Update Rosters Online

a. Mandatory for all fraternities
b. Can be found through the Greek life website

VI. Student Organization Registration (www.jhu.edu/involvement)

a. Mandatory for all fraternities
b. Due Friday, September 9th

VII. Student Organization Presidents Training, September 14, 11:30 AM – 2 PM

a. Free registration, lunch included
b. Register with Office of Student Involvement, 410-516-4873 or involvement@jhu.edu
c. Simple seminar (non-Greek affiliated) on how to effectively take charge of a student group

VIII. HampdenFest, September 15

a. A fun way to participate with the community in their own activities
b. For better terms with the residents of Charles Village and greater Baltimore
 

IX. Reggae & Brew Festival, Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, September 15

a. $10 - Students w/ ID and over 21 (includes zoo admission & 10 beer tickets)
b. Jah Works & Unity Reggae Band
c. Caribbean foods, jewelry, artisans and craft vendors, games
d. A fun way to participate with the community in their own activities
e. For better terms with the residents of Charles Village and greater Baltimore

X. Fall Fest (formerly Fall Festival), September 28-30

a. BB-Q on the beach
b. Wear letters
c. Fun games and a great rush tool

XI. Sandwich Sundays w/ Inter-Faith Center

a. Sept 30, Oct 28, Nov 18, Feb 3, Mar 2, Mar 30, Apr 27

c. Make PB&J that are delivered to the hungry in Baltimore
d. Easiest community service to organize for a fraternity

XII. Discussion/Announcements/Events

a. Eventually there will be a re-vamped all Greek formal we can all participate in together to show our unity as a Greek system
b. Alpha Epsilon Pi – LiveEarth Party

i. Modeled after last year
ii. Co-op with the environmental group H.E.A.T.
iii. Enviro-friendly party is the goal
iv. October 6, 2007
v. A request for monetary funds is pending
--NOTE TO ALL, REGISTER AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE, THE BEAURACRACY OF HOPKINS’S FINANCIAL SYSTEM IS AN ABSOLUTE MESS

c. Open Discussion - Sig Ep Dorm Wars, $500 approval from the IFC, main philanthropic event this year promoting Baltimore’s Special Olympics Team

Chapter Reports

  • AEPi- nice house, new neighbors
  • Beta Theta Pi- cleaned up local neighborhoods with the freshmen; Wyman cleanups are also a huge hit, once or twice a month, another great way to serve the community
  • Lambda Phi Epsilon - Held a BBQ for SOPi, handed out fliers at Pre-O, Would like to shift their image and become more involved with the rest of Greek life

Rob’s Comments

  • The math club has a cool math scavenger hunt, could be fun!
  • If you would like your house inspected from a safety and security standpoint, just contact Rob or the security office for a free house walk through
  • NO REPORTS—KEEP IT UP!
