Student Advisory Boards
There are many opportunities for students to get involved in advisory boards across campus.  These boards allow students to work directly with staff and faculty, and to be involved in many key decision-making processes for the university.  Boards are listed below in alphabetical order, along with contact information for each.

Academic Advising Student Advisory Committee
Charge: To provide student perspective on academic advising services and policies, and to recommend new services and policies
Membership: Composed of 8 undergraduate student volunteers.
Frequency: Generally meets twice per semester.

Admissions Representative Leadership Council
Charge: Admissions Representatives (ARs) participate in a number of recruitment and enrollment activities that serve the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.  These include on-campus interviewing, public speaking at presentations and on panels, general outreach, and other efforts as needed.  The Leadership Council provides the opportunity for students to share insight and gain experience in volunteer management, coordination, and training in a professional setting.
Membership: The Leadership Council is composed of two students who have served at least one year previously as Admissions Representatives.  Membership is limited to students in their final two years of undergraduate work.
Frequency: Meetings occur as needed throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.
Note: Selection of Admissions Representatives takes place in the Spring semester, while selection of the Leadership Council occurs in the summer months prior to the start of the academic year.

Arts Certificate Committee
Charge: Review applications from Juniors who are applying for the Arts Certificate Program.
Membership: Composed of 5 staff and 5 students, including the SAC Performing Arts Liaison.
Frequency: Meets once each year in March.

Blue Key Executive Board
Charge: Established to support the group advisor in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of campus tour guides. Board Members also assist with semester scheduling of guides, finding campus speakers for our general assembly meetings, supporting special tours, and creating and refining the tour guide route and manual each spring. As leaders of the Blue Key Society, these students are expected to be positive role models for incoming guides, as well as excellent ambassadors for the university.
Membership: The Executive Board is composed of 3-5 students who have served at least one year as a tour guide.
Frequency: Meets twice a month in addition to the general assembly meeting. 
Note: Students must apply to be a member of the Executive Board and are interviewed by the advisor and current board members.

Cadet Battalion Staff
Charge: Established to provide a leadership opportunity for senior Cadets and to provide an opportunity for Cadets to have input into Battalion and Department Operations.  Cadets plan activities and provide informal counsel to the Professor of Military Science on various issues affecting the Cadets in ROTC. This group acts as a functioning staff but also provides constructive feedback and identifies student issues to the Cadre. 
Membership: Composed of 8-14 students from the senior class of ROTC cadets
Frequency: Meets weekly.
Note: Meetings are attended by at least one faculty member.  A student member of this staff also attends the weekly Department meetings to ensure issues are understood and addressed.

Career Center Advisory Board
Charge: Established to support the Career Center's mission by providing constructive feedback on current programs and services as well as future enhancements to center offerings.  Supports the office by assisting in the promotion of center events and services.
Membership: Composed of 8-10 students ideally represented by 2 students each from freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior classes.
Frequency: Meets 4-6 times a year.
Note: Recruiting begins April 1st.

Counseling Center Advisory Board (CCAB)
Charge: This group provides informal feedback to the Counseling Center about programs and services. They also offer suggestions about ways to enhance student life at Hopkins.
Membership: Composed of 18-20 students, including representatives from APTT, SGA, BSU, Athletic Teams, IFC and at-large students
Frequency: Meets monthly or as needed.
Note: The group has designed programs and services such as an improved depression survey, an email letter to students ( about signs and symptons of depression), and the Community Project.

Curriculum Committee
Charge: Reviews all proposals for new majors and minors, and considers curriculur requests and related academic policies.  Makes recommendations to Academic Council.
Membership: 4 undergraduate students nominated by SGA and 4 faculty.  Appointments approved by Academic Council.
Frequency: Meets at least monthly

Dean’s Student Advisory Committee (DSAC)
Charge: Provides informal counsel to Dean of Undergraduate Education on various issues affecting the undergraduate experience. This group acts as a sounding board, provides constructive feedback, and identifies issues needing attention. 
Membership: Composed of about 15 - 18 students including representation from SGA, Black Student Union, IFC, Panhellenic Council, Interfaith Center, Athletic teams, HOP, RA's and other students at large.
Frequency: Meets monthly.

Dining Committee (Food for Thought Committee)
Charge: Residents meet bi-monthly with dining personnel to address issues.
Membership: 12-15 residents

Hopkins Hosting Society (HHS)
Charge: Established to support the group advisors in planning for overnight programming each year, the HHS Executive Board also has the opportunity to develop as leaders and also as co-leaders. The Executive Board assists in leading HHS meetings, brainstorming for programming ideas, preparing materials (welcome packets and t-shirts etc.) for each overnight and, perhaps most importantly, in helping the group leaders carry out a successful event the day of each overnight. During open houses for admitted students, the executive board also serves the important function of helping to coordinate the much anticipated tours of freshmen dormitories. 
Membership: Generally composed of 4 students who have previously been active members of the HHS.
Frequency: Meetings occur as needed throughout the Fall and Spring, meeting at least once at the beginning of each semester, once before each pre-overnight group-wide meeting, and more frequently as overnight programs approach.
Note: Students apply to be a member of the Executive Board and are interviewed by the group's advisors and current Executive Board members.

Hopkins Symphony Orchestra Advisory Board
Charge: Offers advice and support to the HSO staff. Volunteers for specific duties related to concert production.
Membership: 6-10 people; student advisors must be members of the orchestra
Frequency: Meets 3 times a year.

Housing and Dining Advisory Committee
Charge: Exists to provide on-going feedback about the type and quality of housing and dining services and programs.  The group is consulted on new or changing policies and students are encouraged bring ideas and suggestions to the Committee.
Membership: Composed of 15 - 25 students The freshmen class president is always invited, nominations are requested from Student Council, RAB and Student Affairs colleagues (Dean and Associate Deans of Student Life, Residential Life, Student Activities, Chaplain, Greek Life, Financial Aid, Admissions, OMSA, Career Services, Academic Advising and Admissions.) Nominated students are invited to participate and accept based on their availability.

HSA Diversity Committee
Charge: Group is charged with assessing the campus climate in terms of diversity and developing recommendations to the Dean of Student Life for the improvement of existing programs and services as well as new initiatives.
Membership: Composed of 6 staff and 4 undergraduates.
Frequency: Quarterly for full committee; monthly for subcommittees.

JHU Interfaith Council
Charge: The mission of the JHU Interfaith Council is to sponsor and work towards establishing a cooperative community spirit and peaceful co-existence among religious groups on the Hopkins campus and to dispel the myths and misunderstandings others may hold about various religions, faiths, and belief systems.  The Council does not have the right to interfere with the internal affairs of any member organization.
Membership: Composed of representatives from 29 student religious groups on the Homewood campus and at-large members interested in interfaith dialogue and engagement.
Frequency: Meets weekly to engage in dialogue, plan programs for the greater campus community, and advise on policy for the department.

Multicultural Student Volunteers Executive Board
Charge: Established to create and sustain a diverse community at Johns Hopkins University. Members of the Executive Board communicate with and mentor both prospective and admitted students. They assist the group advisor in organizing university efforts such as email and phone-a-thons, tours, community outreach, and overnight hosting during our Colors of Hopkins and Discovery Day programs.
Membership: Composed of 5 undergraduate students
Frequency: Meets monthly, with additional meetings around Colors of Hopkins and Discover Days programs.
Note: Elections for board members are held by the group.

Peer Health Advisory Board (PHAB)
Charge: Established in order to discuss and provide feedback on recruitment and training, programmatic issues and to help set the overall  strategic direction for the peer health education program.
Membership: Comprised of 6 students from the peer health program, representing sophomores, juniors and seniors.
Frequency: Meets a few times a semester and as needed.

Performing Arts Council
Charge: Meets to plan activities of their groups, schedule annual auditions, and oversee scheduling of rehearsals & concerts.
Membership: Composed of approximately 15 students from eight a cappella groups, two dance teams, and one comedy improv group.
Frequency: Meets 2-3 times per semester.

Pre-Professional Programs Student Advisory Committee
Charge: Established in order to provide feedback to the Office of Pre-Professional Programs and Advising regarding the office priorities, program emphases, and services to students.
Membership: Composed of 6-8 students representing different graduating classes, professional interests, mix of majors, underrepresented students, etc.
Frequency: Meets once per semester.

Resident’s Advisory Board (RAB)
Charge: Residents serve both in officer roles and membership roles in order to serve the residential student population in their quality of life issues by meeting with administration, and building community through programming.
Membership: Composed of about 30-35 officers and members from all residential communities.
Frequency: Meets and programs weekly.

Senior Leadership Consultants
Charge: Group is charged with the design and implementation of undergraduate leadership programs and services including workshops, conferences and consulting. Also provide advise to Dean's office for further leadership program, services and new initiatives.
Membership: Composed of 14 senior students selected through an interview process.
Frequency: Meet weekly in project teams and monthly as entire group.

Student Activities Commission (SAC)
Charge: Serve as a liaison for a specific category of student organizations.  Allocate money to a variety of student organizations to assist with their programs and services.
Membership: Composed of 8 undergraduate students, including the SGA Treasurer and 7 liaisons representing different categories of student organizations (i.e. cultural, performing arts, religious, etc.)
Frequency: Meets weekly on Thursdays to review budget proposals.
Note: Selection takes place at a General Assembly of all SAC groups at the end of the Spring semester.

Student Admissions Advisory Board
Charge: Established to assist the Admissions Office in all aspects of the recruitment process. This group meets on a weekly basis to discuss and implement new recruiting initiatives. SAAB currently directs and operates a major web recruitment project known as Hopkins Interactive (http://apply.jhu.edu/hi), which contains student blogs, message boards, online videos, and other unique forms of marketing. Throughout the year SAAB will continue to work on Hopkins Interactive, as well as contribute to additional admissions related projects including assisting with Open Houses and the designing of publications. Members of SAAB contribute the content to these projects and essentially become the student face/voice of Hopkins to prospective students and applicants.
Membership: Composed of 22-25 undergraduate students.  Mix of all classes and academic departments.
Frequency: Meets weekly.
Note: Selection is highly competitive and includes an application and interview.

Student Advocacy Board (SAB)
Charge: Established as the student governing board, overseeing more than 45 student community service organizations.  The SAB is also a strong voice on campus, encouraging meaningful service initiatives in the Baltimore community.  The group speaks to gatherings of faculty and administrators on service learning, experiential education, and initiatives for social change.
Membership: Composed of 9 students, representing interests such as social justice, mentoring/education, health and advocacy.
Frequency: Meets weekly.

Student Athlete Advisory Council
Charge: Enhance the experience of student-athletes who are members of intercollegiate varsity athletic programs at Johns Hopkins University.  Provide student-athletes with a means of improving visibility within the campus community through community service, communication between student-athletes and the University administration, and increased programming. SAAC will also provide insight and feedback on Department of Athletics issues, Centennial Conference issues, NCAA matters and legislation, etc.
Membership: Composed of at least 2 representatives from each of the 24 varsity teams.
Frequency: Meets monthly for general group meetings.  Executive Board also meets monthly prior to general meetings.  Smaller committee groups meet based on programming and events they are coordinating.  President of SAAC also attends semi annual meetings at the conference level.

Student Health Advisory Committee
Charge: SHAC acts as liaison between students and the SHWC. With feedback from student surveys and comments, SHAC makes recommendations to SHWC staff for improvement or enhancement of health services. SHAC also markets SHWC services to the students.
Membership: Comprised of ideally 7-10 undergraduate and graduate students.
Frequency: Meets monthly

Student Life Advisory Committee
Charge: Established to create a mechanism for input and feedback on student life issues and programs at Homewood.  The committee advises the Dean on matters of student life policy, program management, planning and priority setting; facilitates the sharing of information about student life issues; provides input into planning and service delivery for housing and dining operations; and ensures that the goals and priorities developed for the student life areas respond to the needs and concerns of both schools.
Membership: 4-6 students, 4 faculty members and representatives from the Arts & Sciences and Engineering Deans offices.
Frequency: Meets twice each semester.
