Sigma Chi is the Nation's premiere leadership based fraternity. With 219 undergraduate chapters, 9 in Canada, and over 200,000 brothers worldwide, Sigma Chi is the third largest Fraternity in the world. We are also one of the oldest Fraternities still around, being one of the original Fraternities in the Miami Triad. On June 28th, 2005, Sigma Chi celebrated 150 years with a huge gathering of Sigs from across the globe. The event was emceed by David Letterman (Ball State, 1969) and was attended by members from all 219 active undergraduate chapters and Alumni.
Sigma Chi seeks men of good character, students of fair ability, with ambitious purposes, a congenial disposition, possessed of good morals, having a high sense of honor and a deep sense of personal responsibility. If you believe you have what it takes to be a Sigma Chi, do not hesitate to contact us or come out to an event. Sigma Chi is not meant for everyone and we recommend that you check out each fraternity and find what really suits you. In Sigma Chi we support Greek life at Hopkins and the inter-Greek bonds we develop.
The brothers of Sigma Chi come from many religions, races, and backgrounds. Within this diversity resides the strength of our friendship. The Spirit of Sigma Chi is based on the theory that friendship among members, sharing a common belief in an ideal, and possessing different temperaments, talents, and convictions, is superior to friendship among members having the same temperaments, talents, and convictions, and that genuine friendship can be maintained without surrendering the principle of individuality or sacrificing one's personal judgment.
Through the Creed, the Jordan Standard, and the Spirit of Sigma Chi, our ideals are taught to pledges and continue to influence our every action as a brother through life. Our pledge programs and activities held each semester build the leadership qualities that have become known as Sigma Chi traits. From paintball in Westminster to retreats on the Eastern Shore, from ropes courses with Master Seargent Eversmann (Hampden-Sydney,'88) to faculty receptions with Professor Arronheime, leadership is woven into everything we do. Sigma Chi is also the number one contributor to Children's Miracle Network, with over 11 million dollars donated over thepast 20 years. The local chapter at Hopkins has contributed over 3,000 dollars to CMN and also participated in the 2004 Radiothon.
