Group of students at the Student Activities Fair

Faculty Involvement Grant

The Faculty Involvement Grant provides funding to be used to support educational activities between faculty and student organizations.

Purpose

The Faculty Involvement Grant was created to promote meaningful dialogue and interactions between faculty members and students.

Criteria

Student organizations must be undergraduate and registered on Hopkins Groups to be eligible.

Each organization may submit up to two program proposals per academic year.

Funds can be applied to a variety of costs to include: transportation, advertising, admission costs/tickets, facility rentals, audio/visual, supplies, books and food*.

*Food cannot exceed 25% of the total cost of the event, unless it is a food-based event.  Funding will not be provided for alcohol

This grant cannot provide an honorarium (speaking fee) to the faculty member(s).

Preference will be given to unique collaborations and programs that foster new relationships.

Events should not be purely social in nature - a learning element should be included.

Your event may include multiple faculty members.  Faculty members must be based on the Homewood Campus or Peabody.

Sample Events

Be as creative as you want with your program proposal, but here are some general event ideas:

  • A joint community service event
  • An interactive bus trip
  • A museum tour
  • A lecture in a unique venue
  • A film screening and discussion
  • A dinner at a professor's home
  • An etiquette/networking event
  • A book club led by a faculty member
  • A coach-for-a-day program
Timeline

Grant applications are due by February 15, 2012.  The program must take place between February 23, 2012 and May 4, 2012.  If your event falls before or after that time frame, please email Janet Kirsch for a possible exception.  You will be notified no later than February 22, 2012 if your group has received funding.
