It is a proven fact that most learning happens outside the classroom. Within the residence halls, you will learn and grow as a productive citizen and resident with opportunities that challenge and explore your own personal development. We, as the residential life staff, are here to assist and support you in life's lessons. We work hard to advise, assist and afford you the occasion to take full advantage of a living environment that is exceptionally unique. We utilize programs to build community where you can feel a part of that community, contribute, express yourself and feel safe. We know that the most successful students are the students who involve themselves in their community. So get involved! Join us in the journey of coming together to form friendships, to live and learn together, to make Hopkins Residential Life a place that has your name on it! Today's experiences are tomorrows memories! So welcome! Explore, and come see us anytime. We are here for you! Shelly Fickau Director of Residential Life
The Office of Residential Life, along with the Departments of Housing and Dining Services, share the belief that through group living, students develop important personal, social and interpersonal skills. They learn to appreciate and respect individual differences and ethnic diversity, develop a greater understanding of their own identity and learn that they have responsibility for their actions as they deal with moral and ethical dilemmas. Encouraging the integration and involvement of faculty and other student affairs staff further enhances the quality of the residential community. It is the primary responsibility of the Office of Residential Life to take on the teaching/counseling/programming role that will help to create an environment in the residence halls where this kind of learning will occur. As a member of residential hall living, students will have many opportunities to foster friendships, develop life skills and become involved in a variety of leadership and other activities. The Director and Assistant Directors work with a group of Resident Advisors to help residents live together, have fun while succeeding academically, and grow as individuals as well as members of the Hopkins community.
