Applying to Graduate

(Arts and Sciences and Engineering full-time and part-time programs)

If you are expecting to graduate within the next six months, you should review your ISIS self-service degree information.

Check the degree information display carefully as you apply to ensure your diploma will be ordered correctly. Double-check the following:

• Is your name spelled correctly in ISIS?

• Are you applying for the degree you think you are?

• Is your major listed correctly? All of your majors should be listed. Your primary major will be listed on your
diploma first. All additional majors will follow (undergraduates and Engineering for Professionals program only).

• Is your minor(s) listed correctly? Minors are not printed on your diploma; however, they are noted on your
  official transcript (undergraduate only).

• Is your department listed correctly? (full-time program graduates only).

If anything about your degree information does not agree with your degree intention, contact your academic advisor (undergraduates), or department coordinator (full-time program graduates), or divisional office (AAP or EP) immediately prior to applying to graduate.

If all information in ISIS is correct, continue the application process.

• Program of Study

• Apply to Graduate

• Complete all required fields and click SUBMIT

• Print a copy of the application for your record and/or advisor

Phonetics Chart
It is important to spell non-common names phonetically as this is what the reader at the Commencement ceremony will use to pronounce your name on stage. If not completed, Registrar's staff will make the best assumption possible. You will be able to make small corrections on Commencement Day if needed.

Please use the most current address and email information as this will be where you will receive all commencement information. Your diploma will be mailed to this address if you complete early or if you finish in spring but do not attend the ceremony.

Diplomas for all summer and fall graduates will be mailed once final clearance has been received from your advising office, unless you specify "pick-up diploma." If you opt for pick-up you will be notified via email once your diploma is ready at 75 Garland Hall, the Office of the Registrar. Spring graduates will receive their diplomas at the Commencement ceremony; diplomas may be picked up.

Graduation FAQ

Application Deadlines:

Application deadlines are set so that diplomas arrive in accordance with your conferral date. Once the deadline to apply has passed the option to choose the correct completion term will no longer be available in ISIS. Late applications to graduate will need to be completed using a paper application form. Note: This may delay receiving your diploma in time for Commencement.

General/Departmental Honors (undergraduate students):

Please make certain all grades have been submitted and recorded in ISIS as this may affect the final notation of honors. Honors are not listed on the diploma but are listed in the Commencement Program and noted on your official transcript.

Final Degree Clearance:

Degrees will be conferred and mailed only after final degree clearance has been received from the appropriate advising or divisional offices.

Diploma:

The dimensions of all Johns Hopkins University diplomas are 17" x 14". They are original, engraved, legal documents and cannot be copied, reduced in size, or reproduced by the Registrar's Office.

When you apply to graduate in ISIS make certain all information is correct. Your diploma is a legal document. Your name must match what is listed in your ISIS student record (middle names are the only exception). If a correction needs to be made to the first or last name, contact the Registrar's Office before you apply for graduation. You will need to provide legal documentation to correct or change your name on your student record.

Holds on Your Diploma:

The following three holds will prevent receiving your diploma: Financial, Student Loans (uncompleted Exit Interviews) and Academic. If you have any of these three holds on your student record you will not receive a diploma or transcript until the obligation has been fulfilled. This does not prevent your actual graduation or conferral of your degree.

Replacement Diplomas:

Lost, damaged or duplicate diplomas may be order for $55.00 (check or money order only) and take approximately 8-10 weeks. Please click on Duplicate Diploma Order Form to download the form and instructions.
