Certification & Training Programs

Want to make your knowledge official?  Join one of our certification programs, and get a job doing what you love.

Personal Fitness Trainer certification - for individuals wanting to work one-on-one with clients who need exercise guidance, intelligent program design, and motivation to achieve their goals.

Group Fitness/Aerobics Instructor certification - students interested in leading step aerobics, cardiokickboxing, or other choreographed aerobic-type classes will benefit from this program.

Pilates Instructor training - a program for those individuals who'd like to lead basic and intermediate level mat Pilates classes, offered via PHI Pilates.

Yoga Instructor certification - a certification training program for those individuals who'd like to lead basic and intermediate yoga classes, offered via YogaFit.

Spinning Instructor - offered by Mad Dogg Athletics, this weekend workshop is the first step to becoming a full-fledged Spinning instructor.

Lifeguard Certification - offered through the American Red Cross, this program is for individuals who'd like to be certified and employed as lifeguards.

Additional certifications required for employment:

CPR & AED - this American Red Cross certification is free to those in training and any student currently employed by the Office of Recreation.  Schedules throughout the semester will be announced. CPR and AED training is required for fitness employees.

Basic 1st Aid - this American Red Cross certification is free to those in training and any student currently employed by the Office of Recreation.  Schedules throughout the semester will be announced. First Aid training is strongly recommended for fitness employees.
