The mission and purpose of Pre-Orientation is to offer a meaningful and exciting wilderness experience that provides incoming students with the opportunity to establish a network of peer support that better prepares them for the transition into life at Johns Hopkins University.
So, it's the week before Freshmen Orientation; you could spend it at home, biting your nails, pacing your room, packing and repacking... but we strongly recommend an exciting alternative: Pre-Orientation!
PRE-O is a program offered exclusively to incoming freshmen who are looking to delve into new experiences. JHU Experiential Education offers five outdoor excursions that run the gamut from water to land and everything in between. Whether you're looking for an intense adventure or something a little more relaxed, we have options for everyone - and no matter the trip, no experience is necessary! Take advantage of the last days of summer and meet fellow freshmen before the academic year kicks into high gear! You may even pick up a few backcountry skills that will help you survive college...
Upperclassmen from Experiential Education's Outdoor Pursuits and Johns Hopkins Outdoors Club will be leading you on these adventures! Our Instructors have terrific outdoor skills, and their personalities aren't too shabby either. Not only are they available to lead you on the trip of your choice, but also to help ease the transition into your new life at Hopkins. Let's not forget that our staff is highly trained. Instructors are certified as Wilderness First Responders and CPR providers, and have taken part in a 10-day outdoor leadership course.
Oh, and did we mention this is our 17th annual PRE-O? We're excited to take you on this unforgettable experience!
Lots of students travel from far and wide to get to Johns Hopkins University.
If you're arriving via plane, train, bus or bike - we'll pick you up!
