Pre-Orientation Program

Welcome to

Pre-Orientation 2008!!!

The mission and purpose of Pre-Orientation is to create a meaningful and fun wilderness experience that allows incoming students an opportunity to establish a network of friends and better prepare for their transition to Johns Hopkins University.

Outdoor Pursuits and Pre-Orientation Instructor Selection Process

We would love to have you as an Outdoor Pursuits and Pre-Orientation instructor.  Here is the process you need to go through to be selected:

1. Fill out an Instructor APPLICATION by Oct. 3 5:00PM

2. Go to the selection interview Oct. 6 (Time will be announced)

3. If selected you will go on the Instructor Selection trip Oct. 17-18

About Pre-O

So it's the week before freshman orientation. You could spend it at home, biting your nails, biding your time, packing and repacking. But we (strongly!) recommend something else: Pre-Orientation. It's for incoming freshmen looking to delve into a new experience. We offer six outdoor experiences that run the gamut from water to land, intense to a little more laid-back...we have something for everyone, and no matter what the trip, no experience is necessary.

Sure, you'll get a little dirty. But what better way to meet other freshmen before school starts? Besides, it's still summer, the weather is nice. Maybe you'll even pick up a few back country skills that will help you survive freshman year.

Upperclassmen students will be your leaders. These students have strong outdoor skills, as well as outgoing personalities, and they are ready not only to lead you on your trip, but to help you ease the transition to college life. Our staff is trained in CPR, Wilderness First Responder medical course, a ten-day outdoor leadership course, and extensively in their outdoor sport.
