Outdoor Pursuits Whitewater Kayaking

Come make a splash with the Outdoor Pursuits Whitewater Kayaking program! We paddle on various rivers and creeks in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

If you have never been kayaking before or want to get back into a boat, beginner trips are great choice. Those who have been on a kayaking trip with us before and are looking for a new challenge, sign-up for an intermediate trip. To go on intermediate trips, make sure you sign-up for a beginner trip first (see requirements below). Transportation, equipment and instruction is included.

Trip Requirements

After you pay and sign up for a trip:

-You will receive an email with important paperwork and trip information please read it thoroughly.
-Please fill out the trip paperwork (Medical form and Whitewater Kayaking Waiver) and return it to Basecamp in person or by email op@jhu.edu by 5pm the Wednesday before your trip.
-You must attend 2 Pool Sessions before attending a Whitewater Kayaking trip. Pool Sessions are held at the pool in the JHU Rec Center on Thursdays and Fridays from 7:30pm - 9:30pm.*
-You must attend your pre-trip meeting where you will go over trip logistics.  You will receive the date and time by email from your trip instructors.
-In order to go on an intermediate trip, you must have previously done a beginner kayaking trip.

*Kayak Pool Sessions are open to any member of the Ralph S. O'Connor Recreation Center and/or any participant signed up for a Whitewater Kayaking or Sea Kayaking trip. If you do not have a membership to the Rec Center but are signed up for a trip, please email op@jhu.edu with your name, phone number and dates you want to attend pool sessions so we can leave your name at the front desk. You will need to show a photo ID at the Rec Center Welcome Desk.

Our trip registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not buy more trip spaces than you think you can join. We recommend you start with one trip and then check back the next week if you want to join others. You may only purchase one space per trip.

For more information on how to purchase tickets and our cancellation policy please check out our Registration Page.

Please stop by the Experiential Education Basecamp or contact us for more information. We are excited to have you join us!
