Next January we are offering a Wilderness First Responder Re-Certification class through the Wilderness Medical Institute of the National Outdoor Leadership School (WMI of NOLS). WFR-R is an 24-hour, 3-day intensive course in wilderness medical response.

Are your wilderness medicine protocols on the tip of your tongue or in the bottom of your pack? This 3-day scenario-based course is designed as review and practice of evacuation and decision making guidelines. It also provides current updates in the wilderness medicine field. There will be a written examination at the beginning of this course.
- The course is offered on the Homewood campus of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
- Check in is at 7:45 AM on the first day of the course.
- Course days run from 8:00am - 5:00pm and there will be two evening sessions (decided by the instructors).
- Attendance is required for all scheduled classes. Scenarios, and practice sessions will take place both indoors and outdoors.
- Please bring outdoor clothing appropriate for laying on the potentially wet, muddy or snowy, cold ground playing the role of both rescuer and patient.
- Frequently stage blood (moulage) and make-up will be used to emphasize the reality of a scenario. Please bring clothing that can get messy.
Participants are required to pass both a written and practical examination to obtain WFR-R . Successful course completion earns you a WMI Adult & Child CPR certification and a WMI Wilderness First Responder certification. EMTs will earn a Wilderness EMT certification. All certifications are current for two years.
This course may be used to recertify Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Responder and Wilderness EMT (wilderness portion only) certifications. You must possess a current WFR certification of at least 70 hours to recertify through a WFR Recertification course. It is your responsibility to make sure that your certification meets this standard. If you are unsure, please contact WMI before enrolling in a course. You will be asked to show a copy of your WFR or WEMT card.
1 college credit is available through WMI-affiliated colleges and universities.
*This certification course carries no academic credit for Johns Hopkins University. The credits offered through University of Utah are not transferable to Johns Hopkins University. Please check with your college or university ahead of time to make sure they will accept these credits for transfer.
This course is pre-approved for 18 hours of EMT Continuing Education Hours by the .

Participants are required to fill out a , a and a prior to participating in this course. Please read this document very carefully as it affects your legal rights. If you are a minor, a parent or guardian must sign the document. Failure to provide a signed document will result in you not being able to participate in the course. WMI participants, including minors, will have unsupervised free time throughout the course. Any activities during the free time are not part of the WMI program and are at the sole risk of the participant.

If a student cancels or withdraws from a course:
-Greater than or equal to thirty-days prior to the course start date (December 25, 2013), sponsors (WMI and Experiential Education) will retain $50
-Within thirty days of the course start date and once the course has begun, tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable.
- You will need: a large day pack with multiple layers, water bottles, waterproof tops and bottoms, sturdy boots, head lamp or flashlight and a watch with a second hand. A 4-hour evening, outdoor mock rescue is part of the curriculum, so please dress accordingly.

- PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE COURSE. THIS INCLUDES LEASHING THEM OUTSIDE. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any student bringing pets to class will be asked to leave class until the pet is safely situated in a kennel or other facility.
