Welcome/Security Desk Monitor will serve as cheerful and informative first points of contact for all members and visitors. They are responsible for facilitating a fun, safe and welcoming environment for participants and staff members at all times. Before employment begins he or she is required to achieve certifications in Professional Rescuer CPR/AED, Standard First Aid. FACILITY CREW Evenings &Weekends The Facility Crew is responsible for the majority of cleaning in the Student Recreation Center. Duties will vary on a daily basis but may include cleaning locker rooms, offices, hallways and common areas, removing waste from areas inside and outside the facility, and set-up for various events. Requirements: Must be currently CPR/AED & First Aid certified or willing to certify, and have the ability to work at least 8 hours per week. Equipment Desk Attendants must have a general knowledge and interest in sports and good communication skills. Duties include assisting with the recreational sports equipment program encompassing equipment rental, inventory control, and sales. Individuals must be familiar with customer service, financial transactions, word processing, and spreadsheets. Other duties include light janitorial work and laundry services. Requirements: Must be currently CPR/AED & First Aid certified or willing to certify, and have the ability to work at least 8 hours per week.
Lifeguards are hired to work for all recreational swims and special events. Lifeguards open and set up the pool area at the beginning of each scheduled swim or event and are required to maintain a safe environment by enforcing all rules and regulations, and being alert at all times. At the end of each shift, they must fill out a daily summary form and secure the pool area. Requirements: Current Red Cross lifeguard training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Good skills, attitude and customer service required. Office Assistants act as first contact for customer service in the office of recreation. Aids office manager in day-to-day responsibilities of fitness sessions sign ups, issuing guest passes and issuing memberships to the university/alumni. Assist with articulating rules and regulations of the recreation center to the campus. Building Managers are charged with running the facility during all evening, night, and weekend hours. Building managers are responsible for, but not limited to, all areas of customer service, security, safety, maintenance, and emergency procedures. BM’ s close and secures the building every night and open the building on the weekends. Fitness/Weight Room Monitors ensure the safety and organization of the Fitness Center, as well as provide customer service to the users. Monitors help to keep rooms orderly and clean, assist users with basic operation of equipment, and operate as the first line of response in emergency situations. Monitors also articulate the rules and regulations of the rooms to the user. Fitness Class Monitor (Bouncer) checks passes for drop-in fitness classes, and aids in room set-up and breakdown. The bouncer also keeps records of class attendance, controls fitness class size, and assists the class instructor as the first line of response in emergency situations. Class Instructors provide safe, effective, and enthusiastic instruction in various genres of group exercise. Instructors must be certified by a major organization (ACE, AFAA) or demonstrate exceptional knowledge, skills, and abilities for specialized classes, and must also be certified in CPR and AED. Many instructors come from our semester-long instructor training program. Personal Fitness Trainers aid in proper use of fitness equipment and offer generalized fitness programming and testing to the Hopkins community. Trainers can be hired for one-on-one sessions to design individualized fitness programs based on the client's goals, abilities, and health condition. Trainers must be certified by a major fitness organization (ACE, ACSM, NSCA) as well as in CPR and AED, and trainers are hired exclusively through our semester-long training program. Climbing Wall Monitors ensure the safety of beginning or intermediate climbers. Monitors instruct climbers on proper climbing techniques such as belaying, climbing, tying into harnesses and lead climbing. Monitors set routes (holds), belay certify members of the recreation center and keep track of the certified members on climbing wall database. General duties include daily cleaning, set up and break down of climbing equipment. Outdoor Pursuits Instructor leads people on backpacking, climbing, canoeing, sailing or white water kayaking trips. They go through an extensive training program, which includes 10-day wilderness leadership course, 80-hour wilderness first responder course and specific training for each activity. Hopkins Teambuilding Facilitator leads groups through experiential activities to help them become a more effective team. These activities are interactive, fun and powerful learning experiences. Intramural Supervisor is responsible for the evening/weekend running of intramural programs. Responsibility includes game management, league administration and conflict resolution. Supervisors must have knowledge of sports, strong work ethic, communication skills, game operation and officiating knowledge/experience. Some aspects of the supervisor job are trainable. Intramural Official/Score Keeper is responsible for game administration and keeping accurate and thorough scores of intramural games. No experience is required, will train, if necessary. Sports Club Supervisor is responsible for the evening/weekend running of Sport Club programs. Supervisors must provide assistance to the 25+ sport clubs. Communication, conflict resolution and time management skills are a must. No experience needed, will train if necessary.
