Lifeguarding CPR/AED & First Aid Swim Lessons

 

Registration & General Info

Registrations are on a first come, first served basis.

Registration & payment can be made in person or over the phone through the Recreation Office (410-516-5229). Office hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Only credit card payment will be accepted over the phone.

All fees are due at the time of registration.

Course fees include all materials and certification cards. Certification cards will be mailed to participants upon arrival (approximately 2 weeks after the course ends).

Attendance is required on all dates/times of the course. Any absences will result in participant's failure of that course. Make-up dates will not be offered. Refunds will not be issued for absences.

Cancellations with at least two weeks notice of the first day of the course will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given within two weeks of the class start date.

Any dates/times canceled by the department will be rescheduled.

Participants who fail the pretest portion of any course you will not receive a refund for the course.

Lifeguarding

Lifeguard Certification Course - February 26th-April 5th

Registration deadline: Friday, February 21st at 4:00pm.

Cost: $225

Course Meetings on the following dates:
Wednesdays 7-10pm: 2/26, 3/5, 3/12, 3/26, 4/2
Sunday 3-7pm: 3/2
Saturday 12-4pm: 4/5

Upon completion of this course participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid & CPR/AED for Lifeguards Certification valid for 2 years from the date of completion.

Prerequisites:

- Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.

- Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.

- Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs (candidates should place their hands under the armpits).

- Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

 

Lifeguard Recertification Challenge- April 6, 2014 12:00-4:00pm

$75 for JHU students and $100 for the community

This is a course for individuals who are recertifying. The purpose of the Recertification Review is to give individuals the opportunity to review the course content within a formal class setting. Upon completion of this course participants will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards certification valid for 2 years from the date of completion.

Prerequisites:

- Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.

CPR/AED & First Aid

CPR/AED for Adults ONLY Certification - No Classes scheduled at this time.

Upon successful completion of the this course participants will receive an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Adults Certification valid for 2 years from the date of completion.

CPR/AED for Adults and Standard First Aid Certification - No Classes scheduled at this time.

Upon successful completion of the this course participants will receive an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Adults and Standard First Aid Certification valid for 2 years from the date of completion.

Private Swim Lessons

Our Private Swim Lessons are designed to fit the individual needs of you or your child. All of our instructors are certified by the American Red Cross as Water Safety Instructors. Our Instructors will develop a specialized program for you or your child based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program such as Introduction to Water Skills; Fundamental Aquatic Skills; Stroke Development; or Stroke Improvement.

Dates/Times: Lessons are offered throughout the year and are based on your schedule. Dates/Times are based on your and the instructors availability.

Fees: $15/half-hour session/person

Buddy Lesson: $25/half-hour session/2 participants

*Due increased participation and limited instructors there may be a 1-2 week waiting period for swim lessons.
