Freshman initially advised by the Office of Academic Advising. Only after declaring a major are they assigned to a faculty adviser within their chosen major. Even after declaring a major, students are still required to meet with an Academic Adviser to ensure that all university requirements are fulfilled prior to graduation. Upon declaring a Public Health major, students should first meet with Dr. Goodyear to complete the "Change of Major/Advisor" form. During the spring semester of their junior year, students are required to complete the Public Health checklist and verify their progress with both the Public Health Coordinator and the university. Dr. Goodyear is responsible for approving graduation requirements for the Public Health majors. Advising is available during scheduled weekly office hours, or by special appointment, to meet with students from any class or major to discuss a wide range of issues pertaining to Public Health. Career plans, fellowship opportunities, medical or graduate school programs, and broader applications of a degree in Public Health are just a few examples of topics that students might choose to discuss with Drs. Gebo and Goodyear. These advisers can also meet with students who are considering whether to switch into the Public Health major or who have questions about Public Health courses.
