Visit our AMCAS FAQ Forums IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DUAL DEGREE STUDENTS Premedical students in Bachelors/Masters Dual Degree Programs typically pursue a B.A. or B.S./M.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology, a B.A./M.H.S. in Public Health, a B.S./M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering or Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, or a B.A./M.S. in Neuroscience. Some also enroll as part-time graduate students in Advanced Academic Programs of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. It is important for applicants to medical school to properly code their graduate-level coursework on the AMCAS application. How Should I Code My Graduate-Level Coursework in AMCAS? A. Programs where both undergraduate and Master’s course work are listed on the same transcript (B.A./M.S. in Neuroscience, B.A. or B.S./M.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology) - In the “Schools Attended” section of the AMCAS, you would list Johns Hopkins University only once
- In the “Coursework” section of the AMCAS, you would list all of the courses you took for both the B.A./B.S. and the Master’s
- For “Year in School”, classify Master’s courses as “Senior”; list the grades and credit hours exactly as they appear on your transcript
B. Programs where undergraduate and Master’s coursework are listed on separate transcripts (B.A./M.H.S. in Public Health, the B.S./M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering or the B.S./M.S.E. in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) - In the “Schools Attended” section of the AMCAS, you would add two separate Johns Hopkins University entries (if in Public Health, you would add an entry under “Johns Hopkins University” and under “Johns Hopkins University – School of Public Health”)
- In the “Coursework” section of the AMCAS, you would list the undergraduate courses under the first of your Johns Hopkins University entries and your graduate courses under the second Johns Hopkins University entry
- For “Year in School”, classify Master’s courses as “Graduate”. List the grades you received and for credit hours, any graduate courses can be listed as 4 credit courses with the exception of the part-time Engineering for Professionals courses, which can be listed as 3 credit courses.
How Should I Request a Transcript from the Registrar? A. Programs where both undergraduate and Master’s course work are listed on the same transcript (B.A./M.S. in Neuroscience, B.A. or B.S./M.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology) - Get a Transcript Request Form
- Under “Division”, check the box for AS/EN Undergraduate
- Under “Special Requests”, check the box for “Attached” since you will be providing the Registrar with the AMCAS Transcript Request Form (generated when you complete the “Transcripts” area in the “Schools Attended” section of AMCAS)
B. Programs where undergraduate and Master’s coursework are listed on separate transcripts (B.A./M.H.S. in Public Health, the B.S./M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering or the B.S./M.S.E. in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering) - Get a Transcript Request Form
- Under “Division”, check the box for AS/EN Graduate
- Under “Special Requests”, check the box for “Attached” since you will be providing the Registrar with the AMCAS Transcript Request Form (generated when you complete the “Transcripts” area in the “Schools Attended” section of AMCAS)
- Under “Special Requests”, also check the box for “Other” and write in “AMCAS Credit Verification Letter”; if you are also applying to osteopathic medical school, you must also write in “AACOMAS Credit Verification Letter”
