Dear Prospective Applicant, Thank you for your interest in the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Johns Hopkins, which is embedded within an exciting and world-renowned research institution. As a post-bac premedical student at Johns Hopkins you will be part of a small, supportive community yet have the opportunity to take advantage of the institution’s many stimulating and expansive offerings. I am excited to share with you both my enthusiasm for the program and the distinctive features which make it unique. The ultimate aim of the post-bac program at Johns Hopkins, an institution with a long and historic tradition of leadership in science, is to train future physicians in both a rigorous and humanistic fashion. Enrolling in our courses will prepare you well for medical school. Yet our program will also strive to strike a balance between required classes and elective options of your choosing, in order to help you more thoroughly and thoughtfully prepare for a life in medicine. In addition, our aim is to foster an atmosphere of unity, collegiality and collaboration amongst the post-bac students. Our flexible curriculum, tailored to your specific background and goals, allows you both to pace yourself and take advantage of the many offerings within the Johns Hopkins community—on the undergraduate campus, at the School of Medicine, and in the School of Public Health. Our flexibility and array of offerings in science allow you the unique opportunity to create a course of study specifically tailored to your needs. As a distinctive feature of the program, students take advantage of our many relationships with faculty members at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and at the Johns Hopkins Hospital—ranked first in the country—by enrolling in tutorials which enable them to conduct clinical or basic science research under the tutelage of a mentor. In addition, there is the opportunity to do intensive clinical volunteer work during the six-week January intersession. The program also taps into the expertise of faculty members at the School of Medicine by arranging a series of lectures, open only to post-bac students. This series, entitled, “Introduction to Clinical Medicine,” aims to educate post-bacs regarding basic clinical issues, synthesizing science coursework with both clinical topics and questions from the MCAT. Graduates of the Johns Hopkins Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program have achieved outstanding results. Virtually 100% of our students have been accepted to medical school. More impressively, over the last five years 37 merit scholarships, a rarity in medical school, have been awarded to our students. Prior to assuming the leadership of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Johns Hopkins I was Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Goucher College for many years. With my expertise in premedical advising I would guide you through your post-bac year at Johns Hopkins and beyond, as you apply to medical school. My goal is to offer you personalized and accessible advising through each step of the process. I look forward to sharing with you my excitement about the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program at Johns Hopkins. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have specific questions about your background or suitability for our program. Sincerely,
