Janice Bowie, PhD, MPH, is Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Behavior and Society (School of Public Health) and the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions.  Her research includes minority and women’s health, community-based participatory research, and spirituality.  Dr. Bowie has designed and implemented interventions in partnership with community-based organizations and faith settings.  Some of these projects ranged from increasing awareness and participation in cancer early detection to the promotion of a healthy homes project for safer neighborhood housing demolition.  Dr. Bowie chairs the Center’s community advisory committee and is part of the faculty for the training component of the Operations Core, with a focus on recruiting minority students and faculty to the Center’s activities.  She is also the Center’s primary resource for training and implementation issues relating to community-based research.
