Living Near Your Workplace Now Makes Even More Financial Sense
Down payment and settlement costs are one of the biggest barriers to homeownership, especially for first-time home buyers.
Since 1997, Johns Hopkins has teamed with Baltimore City and the state of Maryland offering grants to assist eligible employees with down payment and/or closing costs who choose to purchase homes in designated neighborhoods near the Homewood, East Baltimore, and Bayview campuses.
In 2008, an agreement with The Rouse Company Foundation significantly increased the amount of assistance available.
Thanks to increased funding from Baltimore City, the LNYW base grant has increased from $3,000 to $5,000. The A1 area near the Homewood campus is expanding, thanks in part to The Rouse Company Foundation. The larger area brings more options for buyers and still provides a high grant amount of $23,000 for all of A1.
During the past five years, more than 350 grants have been awarded.
Please note, grants vary by location and restrictions apply. Additional assistance may be available from other sources.
