Biometrics

Biometrics research at the Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute strives to find secure and efficient techniques that use natural characteristics of human physiology and behavior to secure information.  By exploiting natural human behavior, such as voice or handwriting, we are able to create security primitives that are resilient to the pitfalls associated with typical password-based authentication or encryption schemes.  Our research focuses on the design of state-of-the-art evaluation paradigms based on rigorous scientific procedures to ensure that biometric systems will withstand attacks from even the most powerful adversaries.  Such paradigms consider all aspects of the system, ranging from the cryptographic design of biometric templates to the precise empirical measurements of user populations.
