When Jay VanRensselaer wanted to give the 10 students in his three-credit
Introduction to Photography class some experience in front of the camera
as well as behind it, he conceived a portrait-taking exercise that made them
subjects as well as photographers. 'This has evolved into a bigger project of
photographing more and capturing a wider range of people,' he says.
