Internship Programs

The German Section has contact to several organizations that offer internship placements in Germany. Many opportunities exist for students to complete both paid and unpaid internships in leading German companies, academic and cultural institutions as well as government offices. For further assistance, contact Deborah McGee Mifflin.

ICE: International Cooperative Education
ICE has experience organizing internships all over the world since 1971.

Application Fee: $250 / Placement Fee: $ 750

Most internships are paid.

No Application Deadline

CDS International
CDS provides internships in different professional fields and also offers special programs such as internships in state parliaments and Schott Glass.

Placement Fee: $700

Application Deadline for Placement Service: December 15

Application deadlines for other programs vary, see website.

IAESTE
IAESTE organizes paid internships for engineers in industry, research, universities, and labs.

Application Fee: $50 / Placement Fee: $ 500

USA-Interns
USA Interns provides internship placements, including orientation programs and in-country advising. Based in Frankfurt.

Application Fee: $70

Application Deadline: January 7

Summer Study Opportunities

The German Section has contact to several organizations that offer summer study programs in Germany. Many opportunities exist for students to experience German culture and to improve their language skills over the summer. For further assistance, contact Deborah McGee Mifflin.

FUBiS International Summer University at the the Freie Universitaet Berlin
The International Summer University offers German language classes for all levels as well as a variety of twenty-five courses taught in English on different topics ranging from philosophy and literature to film and architecture.

interDaF am Herder Institut Leipzig
Interdaf provides
intensive language training for intermediate and advanced learners. The program also includes cultural topics and excursions to Weimar and Dresden.

International Summer School Humboldt Universitaet Berlin
The Humboldt Summer School offers German language classes for all levels as well as a great variety of seminars that address cultural, poltical, and literay topics. Their program also includes an upper-level class in German literature and theater for advanced learners of German.

The Institute for International Communication offers courses in German at all levels with an emphasis on intercultural studies.
This program is similar to FUBIS in Berlin but it's in Vienna, Austria.  Offers two two-week sessions of German language courses and English courses on European Studies.

Acti Lingua Vienna
Acti Lingua is an institute located in Vienna that offers general language training for all levels as well as specialized language courses such as business German or University perperation programs.

There are several summer study abroad programs run by American universities as well:

Harvard Summer Program in Munich, Germany
Georgetown in Trier
Summer in Münster

Middlebury College, Vermont

Middlebury College Language Schools offer summer programs in German language for all levels. Their courses provide a full immersion environment.  This is an excellent option for those unable to go abroad.

Deutsche Sommerschule am Atlantik
Deutsche Sommerschule am Pazifik
Deutsche Sommerschule in Taos
These stateside immersion programs offer between three and six week immersion courses.
