Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture Minor


General Requirements:

The minors in Spanish language and cultures will consist of six courses beyond the 210.212 Intermediate II or 210.213 Advanced Intermediate levels as explained below. It is also recommended that Spanish minors study abroad for a semester, a summer or an intersession. With the approval of the Director of Undergraduate Studies, only two Spanish language courses taken abroad (in programs other than Hopkins) or at another institution may be used toward the minor, and only one additional Spanish language course will be approved for credit (but this course will not count toward the minor).  

Minor Requirements:

Students must complete six courses beyond the 210.212 Intermediate II or 210.213 Advanced Intermediate level that must include the following: 210.311 Advanced Spanish I; 210.312 Advanced Spaish II or 210.317 Advanced Spanish Composition; 215.231 or 215.232 Introduction to Literature in Spanish I or II; and three additional courses to be chosen from 210.413 Curso de Perfeccionamiento or 211.280 Modern Latin American Culture or 211.290 Modern Spanish Culture or any course from the 215.200-400 Spanish literature series (at least one of them must be from the 300-400 level). Students placing out of 210.311 Advanced Spanish I may take instead a 215 Literature or Culture class. Native speakers should consult with the Spanish major adviser.

 Prerequisites

A. 210.212 Intermediate Spanish II or 210.213 Advanced Intermediate Spanish, or equivalent placement

 Requirements

A. 210.311 Advanced Spanish I

B. 210.312 Advanced Spanish II or 210.317 Advanced Spanish Composition

C. 215.231 or 215.232 Introduction to Literature in Spanish I or II

D. 3 additional courses from the following: 210.413 Courso de Perfeccionamiento, 211.280 Modern Latin American Culture, 211.290 Modern Spanish Culture
 and any courses from the 215.2xx-215.4xx series (at least one of them must be from the 300-400 level)
