NEW REQUIREMENTS FOR ROMANCE LANGUAGE MAJOR

Students may complete a Romance language major in one of two configurations: by specializing in two or three of the Romance Languages offered by the department.

                                                             

Dual Language Option:

Satisfy two languages as described below:

French

Conversation and Composition I & II  (210.301-.302)

Intro La Lit Francaise I (212.201) OR Intro La Lit Francaise II (212.202)

3 Upper Level Courses plus Senior Thesis or Independent Study

Spanish

Advanced Spanish I & II (210.311-312)

Intro to Spanish Literature (215.231)

3 Upper Level Courses plus Independent Study

Italian

6 Upper Level Courses (beyond Intermediate 210.252) plus Independent study

Three Language Option:

Language I:

A.   If French: Con & Comp I & II

      If Spanish: Advanced I & II

      If Italian: competency through Intermediate II

B.  Three Upper Level Courses

      If French: Intro La Lit Francaise I or II plus 2 additional Upper Level courses

      If Spanish: Intro to Spanish Literature plus 2 additional Upper Level courses

      If Italian: 5 Upper Level courses

Language II:

A.   If French: Con & Comp I & II

       If Spanish: Advanced I & II

       If Italian: competency through Intermediate II

B.  Three Upper Level Courses

      If French: Intro La Lit Francaise I or II plus 2 additional Upper Level courses

      If Spanish: Intro to Spanish Literature plus 2 additional Upper Level courses

      If Italian: 5 Upper Level courses

Language III:

A.   If French: Con & Comp I & II

       If Spanish: Advanced I & II

       If Italian: competency through Intermediate II

B. Two Upper Level Courses

      If French: Intro La Lit Francaise I or II plus 1 additional Upper Level course

      If Spanish: Intro to Spanish Literature plus 1 additional Upper Level course

      If Italian: 4 Upper Level courses
