The National Academies brings together experts in all areas of scientific and technological endeavor to serve pro bono to address critical national issues. The National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, and Institute of Medicine – commonly referred to as the National Academies – are private, non-profit institutions that provide science, technology, and health policy advice to the federal government and the public under a congressional charter. Election to membership in the National Academies is considered one of the highest honors that can be accorded a U.S. scientist or engineer. Academy membership recognizes those who have made distinguished and continuing achievements in original research and have demonstrated "unusual accomplishment” in their field. The following is a listing of those Johns Hopkins experts who are current members of the National Academies (updated 5/08).
