Salem Reiner serves as director of community affairs for The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where he provides leadership in the community affairs efforts within and around the university's five campuses. As the director, Salem focuses on addressing university-community concerns, representing community interests before the university's leadership and other institutional personnel, establishing university-community partnerships, and strengthening the neighborhoods surrounding the institution's campuses and the city as a whole. Prior to joining the Johns Hopkins University in 2001, Salem spent 15 years in the public, private and nonprofit sectors in the field of urban economic development and revitalization. During this time he managed a diverse array of initiatives to improve cities, downtowns, retail corridors and neighborhoods. Salem has overseen economic development and revitalization plans and programs, real estate projects, policy initiatives, economic analysis and market studies, grant and loan programs, has facilitated public-private partnerships, and has managed the delivery of several service programs. He received a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from St. Lawrence University and a master's of government administration with a concentration in urban economic development from the Fels Center of Government at the University of Pennsylvania. Salem's board memberships include: the Live Baltimore Home Center, the Charles Village Community Benefits District, the North Charles Village PUD, Waverly Main Street, the Mt. Washington Improvement Association, the Mt. Washington Village Association, the Mt. Washington Elementary School School Improvement Team, and the Central Baltimore Partnership. Salem lives in Baltimore City with his wife and two children.

Mellisa Gopie is an Administrative Coordinator with Community Affairs-Homewood.   Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, she worked as an Administrative Assistant with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  She attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and will complete her undergraduate degree in Social Work in 2009.
