Professor 1955 Ph.D. Cambridge University, England Geophysics (Geophysical fluid mechanics and oceanography Johns Hopkins University Office: 126 Olin Hall Owen Phillips continues to serve on Graduate Board Examinations, etc., and offers occasional departmental seminars, and quite a few invited seminars elsewhere. Although he is always happy to interact with students and to discuss their research with them, he does not now personally supervise graduate students. He has active research programs in the following areas: - (1) Breaking ocean waves and air-sea energy and gas exchanges, pertinent to questions of global climate, (2) Joint measurements with Dr S. Long at NASA Wallops on capillary formation in blockage of short gravity waves. (3) Regional groundwater flow theory, with particular application to regions such as the Delmarva Peninsula and Cape Cod, MA, in which groundwater pollution by fertilizers and other toxic chemicals are of concern. (4) Theory of fully developed Doubly-Diffusive Circulations and joint experiments on heat-salt systems with Prof. Herbert Huppert, University of Cambridge. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
