Profile: Larzer Ziff is the author of a number of books on American literary culture, has edited modern editions of major American authors, and contributed articles and reviews to a range of journals including Critical Inquiry, the TLS, and the Raritan Review. He was the first person to have been appointed to the English faculty of Oxford University for the purpose of teaching American literature, and he has lectured widely in universities in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The recipient of numerous fellowship awards, including a Guggenheim fellowship and a senior fellowship from the National Endowment for the Humanities, he also won the Christian Gauss Award for his book, The American 1890s, and has been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Antiquarian Society, the American Philosophical Society, and the Society of American Historians.Now a Research Professor he no longer teaches formal courses but is available to both graduate and undergraduate students interested in consulting him or pursuing research under his direction.
