Talent Development High School instructional coaches, organizational coaches, and others directly responsible for supporting and leading implementation of the TDHS reform model.
Newly appointed Talent Development coaches will leave this session with an enhanced awareness of the TDHS reform model and the program indicators by which successful implementation is measured. This session will engage participants in activities designed to address the primary functions and the supportive roles coaches fulfill within the implementation of the model. Coaches will also participate in activities to establish a repertoire of techniques and strategies for facilitation of reflective practices and continuous growth.
For those who are returning coaches our time together will help us employ reflective practices to recognize some of the individual filters we bring to the coaching process. We will examine our weekly practices to increase awareness of accomplishments and limits in our current coaching position. This will lead us to revisit the continuum of coaching practices, identify common “resistors” that prevent ongoing planning and reflecting with teachers and identify areas of focus for the 2009-2010 school year.
English Language Arts coaches will explore essential coaching targets for supporting and informally assessing the research-based approaches to successful implementation of the Talent Development Literacy Initiative. During this session, coaches will examine practical tools and explore the use of strategies for supporting teachers through successful implementation of the Talent Development English Language Arts courses.
Freshman Seminar coaches will be actively engaged in Freshman Seminar lessons developed around skill building and goal setting. Emphasis is placed on study skills, as well as social and human relations which are skills our students need to succeed academically and in life. The session will offer a hands-on approach to content knowledge highlighting active teaching, innovative methods of assessment, observation, and reflection.
Math coaches will explore revisions to Talent Development High Schools mathematics curricula, experience and reflect on a model mathematics lesson, and discuss research on how students learn mathematics.
The Organizational strand provides a roadmap for exploring structural, cultural, and instructional changes that enables a community of teachers, administrators and school leaders to transform schools into vibrant learning communities. Participants examine the essential components of the Talent Development model, benefit from the latest research while gaining access to best practices and experiences through collaborative and collegial settings-to craft tools and strategies that would frame our own next steps.
