Johns Hopkins University Policies on Disclosure and Professional Commitment/Conflict of Commitment and Conflict of Interest

Following is a list of Johns Hopkins University policies on disclosure and professional commitment/conflict of commitment and conflict of interest. 

Johns Hopkins University Policy on Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment
Covered Parties
All employees in all units of The Johns Hopkins University.  Includes officers, faculty, staff, and others who are compensated or otherwise supported by the University for their services or who appear to act as agents of the University in using, controlling, or assigning to others the use of University facilities and resources.

Note:  Full-time and salaried part-time faculty affiliated with the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Whiting School of Engineering should adhere to the disclosure requirements included in the Policy on Disclosure and Professional Commitment.

Description
This Policy addresses disclosure requirements applicable to covered parties and the disclosure and conflict of interest review processes.  It also indicates that individual divisions may adopt additional policies or provisions as necessary.

Johns Hopkins University Policy on Disclosure and Professional Commitment
Covered Parties
Full-time and salaried part-time faculty affiliated with the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Whiting School of Engineering.  Non-faculty investigators who have financial interests in outside entities and participate in research under the auspices of these Schools may also be subject to the requirements of this Policy.

Description
This Policy addresses disclosure requirements applicable to covered parties, the disclosure review process, and activities subject to additional conditions or limitations.

The Johns Hopkins University and The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation Policy on Institutional Conflict of Interest
Covered Parties
The Johns Hopkins University, including all its divisions, institutes, centers, and units and The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation and all its constituent entities.  Also Institutional Officials, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • University President
  • University Provost and Vice/Associate/Assistant Provosts
  • University Vice Presidents
  • Deans and Vice/Associate/Assistant Deans
  • Institute and Center Directors and other senior administrators, as determined by the University
  • Health System President
  • Health System Vice Presidents and Directors
  • Divisional procedures may define additional categories, within their divisions, of Institutional Officials, such as Department Directors

Note:  Full-time and salaried part-time faculty affiliated with the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Whiting School of Engineering should adhere to the disclosure requirements included in the Policy on Disclosure and Professional Commitment.

Description
This Policy sets forth the standards and procedures for reporting and review of potential Institutional conflicts of interest.

Johns Hopkins University Policy on Individual Financial Interests and Financial Conflicts of Interest in Research
Covered Parties
Investigators on all research conducted under the auspices of Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, Carey Business School, Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, and Whiting School of Engineering and includes research that is funded by or through the University, its divisions, centers or institutes, or conducted under the aegis of any Johns Hopkins University Institutional Review Boards (including Johns Hopkins Medicine Institutional Review Boards).

Description
This Policy is designed to identify arrangements involving investigators and others who have  financial or fiduciary interest in an outside entity where such arrangements may create risks or the appearance of risks in the conduct and reporting of all research.  Under this Policy, disclosures submitted in accordance with the Policy on Disclosure and Professional Commitment are reviewed by the appropriate University division for financial conflict of interest with research.
