The Department of Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University seeks one or more faculty candidates with exceptionally strong records of conducting and directing cognitive research. Two areas of cognitive science are of particular interest: psycholinguistics and vision. Within the former area, the ideal candidate should address linguistic processing of syntax/semantics/pragmatics, carry out research that makes substantive contact with linguistic theory, and integrate experimental and computational methods. Within the latter area, the ideal candidate should address mid- to high-level vision, conduct research that makes substantive contact with theories of vision, and integrate multiple approaches (e.g., formal theoretical, behavioral, neuroimaging, computational). The rank is open, although preference may be given to Assistant Professor appointments. Candidates should carry out integrative work in the target areas, and have the ability to conduct effective teaching, student supervision, and collaboration in a formally-oriented, highly interdisciplinary cognitive science environment.
