Minority Global Health Disparities Research Training Program (MHIRT) for Undergraduates in Krieger School of Arts & Sciences
The MHIRT consists of a summer internship for up to 3 months (June - August) in one of several countries and fields of research. One student from the School of Arts and Sciences will be chosen to participate. Field Placements for Summer 2010: Australia The Biology of Stress South Korea Cardiovascular Health Promotion Sweden Pain, Health Status, and Quality of Life South Africa (a) HIV/AIDS, Adolescent Health; or (b)Violence against Women/Women’s Health Virgin Islands HIV/AIDS and Violence against Women China Chronic Disease Management To Apply The application and recommendation forms are available in 237 Mergenthaler Hall and on-line at http://www.krieger.jhu.edu/research/globalhealth.html . The application and two recommendation forms must be turned in to Lisa Jia, 237 Mergenthaler Hall, no later than Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 4 p.m. Please inform the persons recommending you that the recommendation forms must be received in a sealed envelope by the above date. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure the recommendations have been sent. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted – no exceptions. Applicants will be evaluated based on previous research courses and experience, strong interest in research career, commitment to addressing health disparities, description of competencies, level of maturity and cultural adaptability. All applicants MUST have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and MUST be U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents. One student from Arts & Sciences will be selected. The selection will be sent to the School of Nursing, who will conduct student interviews with participating Johns Hopkins School of Nursing faculty. Students will be placed at a specific site after these interviews and notified of their placement prior to the winter break. All students are required to attend a week long training session in May to prepare them for traveling abroad. PLEASE NOTE: While the program directors make every effort to ensure that applicants are given one of their top three choices, there is absolutely no guarantee that applicants will be placed in the lab of their choice. | |
