Application and Guidelines

We are no longer accepting PURA applications for the Summer and Fall 2009 cycles.

Completed PURA applications should include the following:
PURA Application Form
Research Proposal
Faculty Recommendation and Sponsor Form (this form is updated)

Submission Instructions
All three parts of the PURA Application should be completed electronically using the PDF forms above and submitted by email to pura@jhu.edu. Paper forms will not be accepted.

NEW: If you have difficulty using the Research Proposal PDF form, or if you need to include charts, diagrams or images, you may submit your research proposal as a Microsoft Word file, not to exceed three pages.

The Application Form and Research Proposal should be submitted at the same time. All three parts of the application should be received in the Office of the Provost.

When saving your PDFs, please include your name in the file name.
For example, student Dan Gilman should name his files as follows:
PURA Application Form: APP_Gilman_Dan
Research Proposal: PROPOSAL_Gilman_Dan

Proposal Guidelines

Proposals should include the following information:

Objective	What question or problem does the project address? What hypothesis, if any, is to be tested?
Significance	Why is this study or work important?
Project Design	How do you plan to execute your project? What will be your methods and timetable?
Background	What courses and other experience have prepared you to undertake this project?
Results	What is the expected outcome?
Presentation	What form will your final report/project take?
Budget	How will the funds be used and by whom? Are you requesting course credit or a stipend? Please detail the expenses you anticipate.
Evaluation	By whom will the project be evaluated and according to what criteria?
Originality	The work must represent the originality and creativity of the student.

Thank you to everybody that submitted a proposal for the summer 2009 Provost's Undergraduate Research Award. The PURA Selection Committee reviewed an exceptional group of applicants and is pleased to announce the summer 2009 award recipients.
