Provost's Initiatives

The Mosaic Initiative
In April 2008, The Johns Hopkins University announced it would provide at least $5 million over the next five years in matching funds for departments seeking to improve diversity, including hiring and retaining outstanding women and underrepresented minority scholars for faculty positions "Our aim is to create a mosaic of the best and the brightest faculty across all our school and in all our disciplines, a mosaic including rising stars interested in becoming part of the intellectual life of this great institution," said Provost Kristina Johnson in announcing the effort.

Framework for the Future
In May 2008, Provost Kristina Johnson and President William Brody initiated a planning process called Framework for the Future in preparation for the next phase in the university's history. The process is intended to engage the university community in thinking about what Johns Hopkins needs to do to maintain its leadership in research, discovery and education, while continuing to positively influence a global society.

"Given the current economic environment, potentially difficult federal funding climate and continuing globalization, it is imperative that we strategically plan for maintaining our excellence in the context of these changing times," said Provost Johnson. "Our aim is to positively impact society through improved research, scholarship, creativity, teaching and professional practice."
