Accreditation and Academic Services

The Johns Hopkins University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The Commission maintains a 10-year cycle of review, beginning with a self-study and on-site evaluation visit, and followed by a Periodic Review Report five years later. Johns Hopkins’ most recent decennial review was conducted in 2004. Dr. Edgar Roulhac, vice provost for academic services, is the university’s Accreditation Liaison Officer, the official institutional liaison with the Commission.

Periodic Review Report
As part of the university’s accreditation by Middle States, Johns Hopkins is required to submit a Periodic Review Report (PRR) in 2009, five years after its previous decennial self-study and reaffirmation of accreditation. The PRR is a retrospective, current and prospective analysis of the institution designed to demonstrate that Johns Hopkins meets and exceeds he standards by which MSCHE reaffirms or denies our accredited status. The Office of the Provost is in the process of preparing the 2009 Periodic Review Report, which will be submitted to MSCHE on or before June 1, 2009. Toward that end, Vice Provost Ed Roulhac chairs a university-wide Periodic Review Report Committee (PRRC), comprising representatives from each of the university’s nine schools.

Substantive Academic Program Change
Working closely with divisional academic program directors, associate deans for academic affairs and the university’s Council of Deans, as well as with the Maryland Independent Colleges and Universities Association (MICUA), the Office of the Provost provides university-wide oversight and coordination of substantive academic program change policies, proposals and notifications as required by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), Washington D.C. Education Licensure Commission (DC/ELC), State Council for Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and other state and regional accrediting agencies.
