P. Michael "Mike" Field
Assistant to the President

Mr. Field is an Assistant to the President and speech writer. His responsibilities include supporting the president in public appearances and written communications through research, writing and editing. He has been at Johns Hopkins since 1992, originally as the staff reporter for the Johns Hopkins University paper of record, the Gazette. In 1994 his duties were expanded to include writing for then-president William C. Richardson, a role he continued with interim president Dan Nathans. In 1996 he came full time to the president’s office to assist incoming president Bill Brody.

A 1980 graduate with a degree in English from the University of Virginia, Mr. Field also earned an M.A. in Drama Studies from Johns Hopkins in 1997.  He has been a lecturer and part time instructor in play writing at both the Johns Hopkins University and Goucher College and most recently his play “For the Return of Albion” about the artistic rivalry between playwright Ben Jonson and architect Indigo Jones was presented in the 2003 Baltimore Playwright’s Festival.
