Paul Pineau

Vice President and General Counsel

President Daniels appointed Paul Pineau to serve as Vice President and General Counsel on March 4th, 2016.  Prior to his appointment as Vice President and General Counsel, Paul served as Interim Vice President and General Counsel from August 1, 2015 till his appointment on March 4th, 2016.  Mr. Pineau joined Johns Hopkins University in October 2014 as Vice Provost for Strategic Initiatives.  Prior to joining the University, Mr. Pineau worked as Chief of Staff and Special Assistant State’s Attorney in the Office of the State’s Attorney for Baltimore City.  Prior to that, he worked as an attorney with Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, a boutique litigation firm with offices in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, New York, and Tampa.  Before working in private practice, he served as a law clerk to judges on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and as Executive Director of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.

Mr. Pineau graduated magna cum laude from Davidson College, receiving his bachelor’s degree in political science.  He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude.  He serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors of Tuerk House, a non-profit substance abuse treatment program that has been providing services in Baltimore since 1970.

The Vice President and General Counsel serves as the University’s Chief Legal Officer, providing and directing legal services for the Board of Trustees, President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts, Deans, and all University units, as well as aiding in the development of University-wide policy.
