Gayle Adams
Director

Gayle Johnson Adams is Director of Community Relations at Bayview. She leads and coordinates the Medical Center’s community outreach, legislative/lobbying and health promotion activities. Gayle first came to what was then Baltimore City Hospitals as a social work student in 1973 where she worked to develop the O’Donnell Heights Medical Center. She became the director when the Community Relations Department was formed. Gayle is a graduate of Goucher College with a B.A. in sociology, and of the University of Maryland School of Social Work, with an M.S.W. concentrating in social strategy and a post-master’s certificate in social work administration.

Sharon Jones
Associate Director

Sharon Jones is Associate Director for Community Relations. Sharon serves on various boards as a representative of Johns Hopkins Bayview. She serves on hospital and community committees, and in addition to her departmental administrative responsibilities, takes primary responsibility for the Medical Center’s blood drives. She has been employed at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center since 1979, and prior to her Community Relations role, served as Executive Office Manager, responsible for the daily operation of the Office of the President. Sharon currently works half-time.

Patricia Carroll
Community Relations Manager

Patricia A. Carroll is Community Relations Manager. Pat’s role includes managing programs to educate the community (youth and seniors) and employees about wellness and health promotion, including exercise, nutrition and injury prevention education. Pat has a high school diploma and over 28 years of experience as an employee of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. She was first employed as a clerk for the administrative offices, and over the years, she advanced in position with the offices of administration, community relations and nursing administration.

Tom McLhinney
Community Program Manager

Tom McLhinney is Community Program Manager. He manages and conducts the Kiwanis Burn Prevention Education Program and has been a member of the Community Relations team since 2001. In this role he teaches burn prevention in schools, works with the Juvenile Fire Starters program, and handles our Safe Babies Program and Burn Prevention outreach efforts. A member of the Baltimore City Fire Department for 32 years, Tom has worked closely with the Johns Hopkins Burn Center since 1981. Last year he received the Moncrief Award from the American Burn Association for his work in Burn Prevention and Education.

Kelli Conroy
Community Relations Coordinator

Kelli Conroy is Community Relations Coordinator and is responsible for teaching FRESH (Food Re-Education for Elementary School Health) to 3rd and 4th graders as well as HEARTS (Healthy Eating, Activity and Recreations for Today’s Scouts) in the area. She represents the Medical Center to several community associations, participates in health fairs, and offers blood pressure screenings to community members. Prior to this position, Kelli worked in many child-related facilities and classrooms. She has a bachelor’s degree in family studies from Towson University.

Beth Donovan
Community Relations Coordinator

Beth L. Donovan is Community Relations Coordinator. Beth is our newest staff member, starting in her current role in July 2008. She is responsible for community outreach, injury prevention initiatives, and management of our emergency food closet. She has previous experience working with the American Breast Cancer Foundation locating grant resources for men and women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. She has a B.A. in social work from Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.


April Meise
Community Relations Coordinator

April Meise is Community Relations Coordinator and has been part of the Community Relations team for almost five years. Her responsibilities include teaching a heart-healthy lifestyle program called FRESH (Food Re-education for Elementary School Health) to students in the Bayview catchment area, offering blood pressure screenings at senior centers and representing the hospital at health fairs and community events. For over eight years she was employed at St. Vincent’s Center, a residential treatment center for abused and neglected children. April has a B.S. in psychology


Elaine Wellkie
Community Relations Coordinator

Elaine Welkie is Community Relations Coordinator. She is employed half-time and represents the hospital in the community and provides blood pressure screenings to a number of senior organizations in our service area. She serves on the hospital’s Cancer Committee and assists with several other hospital activities. Elaine owns a small business and is a leader in her community as well. She is a graduate of University of Maryland with a B.A. in jurisprudence.


Bonita Krizek
Executive Secretary

Bonita Krizek is executive secretary and provides administrative support to the Community Relations Department, including record-keeping and program support. She is involved in a variety of hospital activities including the American Red Cross Blood Drives and serves as staff support to the Hospital Policy Committee. She has worked at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center since 1984, working in Finance and Development offices before coming to Community Relations in 1995. She has attended computer classes at Goucher College and the Community College of Baltimore County.


Christine Freedman
Administrative Secretary

Christine Freedman is a secretary and has been employed at Johns Hopkins Bayview since 1971. Chris has worked in the following departments as support staff: Mailroom, Pediatric Clinic, Patient Accounts, Procurement, and Purchasing. She currently works half time for the Cardiology Department, and half time for Community Relations, supporting the staff in our Food Re-Education for School Health (FRESH) program, which teaches a cardiac disease prevention curriculum in area elementary schools.
