The Gazette

Launched in 1970 to provide university-wide communication, The Gazette is now a four-color tabloid newspaper published 42 times a year, weekly during the academic year (except for Thanksgiving and winter break) and biweekly in the summer. It covers news for and about Johns Hopkins faculty, staff and students and the institution itself. Media representatives from all 10 divisions of the university, plus other smaller units (centers, divisions, etc.), contribute on a regular basis. Advertising is sold by an independent contractor in consultation with the editor and business manager.

The paper goes to press on Friday, and 13,000 copies are distributed on Monday by messenger throughout Baltimore and Washington, D.C., and by mail to other campuses and offices, as well as to subscribers, trustees, local media outlets, government officials, and other friends of the university. The editorial matter is posted online at http://gazette.jhu.edu. The Web site has a search engine for back copies dating to 1994; our office also maintains a database.
