After-school and weekend writing programs

Johns Hopkins Montgomery County and Writopia Lab are now offering writing programs for students ages 9-18.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR KIDS AND TEENS
Cost: $525/writer. Sliding scale available: $385 / $275 / $175
Classes run January 9 – March 18
Workshop enrollment is ongoing. Fees are prorated for those who sign up after the first class.

  • Ages 8-9: Saturdays from 10:15-11:45 am
  • Ages 10-11: Tuesdays from 4-5:30 pm
  • Ages 12-13: Saturdays from noon-1:30 pm
  • Teens: Thursdays from 4-5:30 pm

Each workshop enrolls a maximum of 6 participants and is led by a published, award-winning writer and experienced teacher.

The workshops are peppered with original and fun writing exercises, but the primary goal is to help students pursue their own writing interests and to *complete* excellent pieces.

The Results:

  • Each participant leaves the workshop with at least one polished piece of original writing.
  • Completed pieces are published in Writopia’s online journal, and workshop participants are invited to read their work at Barnes & Noble and other local bookstores.
  • Students are encouraged to submit to contests and publications. For the past 4 years, Writopia writers have won more regional and national Scholastic Writing Awards than have any other group of kids in the country!

To register for workshops, email Kathy@WritopiaLab.org. Include: Rockville location and the day your child will be attending the workshops.
