Gain insight into trends and career opportunities in public relations and media in this new course that provides one week of class learning from Baltimore-based P.R. and media guest speakers followed by a 3-day trip to New York City to meet and network with executives from leading P.R. and media firms.
Companies confirmed for the NY portion are: MTV, Manning Selvage & Lee, R.F. Binder, CBS, and NBC. Pending: Time and Fortune magazines. Companies confirmed for the Baltimore lecture portion are: Arbitron, Maryland Public Television, Imre Communications and The Sugar Association (PR Director). Pending: Baltimore Business Journal, Advertising.com, The Travel Channel. To register, you must submit your resume and completed registration form to the Career Center no later than Friday, November 21 at 12pm.
Space on this trip will be generally allocated on a first-come, first served basis, however, professionalism of students’ resumes and overall GPA will factor into selection should the number of students applying exceed our limit. 100% attendance expected for successful completion of the course. A mandatory trip meeting and resume workshop will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. in the Career Center Library, Garland Hall, 3rd Floor. Neuromarketing is a new field of marketing that studies consumers' sensorimotor, cognitive, and affective response to marketing stimuli. Consumer behavior is the study of how people buy, what they buy, when they buy and why they buy. It blends elements from psychology, sociology, sociopsychology, anthropology and economics. As a result of taking this course, students will be able t
1. distinguish consumers as individuals and decision-makers, 2. describe how income and social class, various subcultures, and cultural influences impact consumer behavior, 3. understand online consumer behavior, especially topics such as virtual communities, virtual marketing, and e-commerce, 4. identify the consumer decision making process, 5. understand the basics of neuromarketing and how this new discipline is applied to marketing.
On-line and in-person registration for this course will be available for all Homewood undergraduate students beginning on Monday, December 8th through Wednesday, January 7th.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in an Investment Bank? Are you curious about what it takes to have a successful career at a major firm? Are you ready to take on a summer internship in the Finance industry? If your answer is yes then this is the opportunity for you! Intersession is the perfect time to explore careers up close and personal.
This course follows the natural capitalization sequence of a company to introduce the main components of the financial services industry: private equity, commercial finance, IPO's, M&A's and leveraged buy-outs, Wall Street research, asset management, and industry ethics. Lectures on these topics will be given by alumni financial experts. The course concludes with a three-day trip to New York City, which will include visits to financial firms and an alumni networking reception. Firms may include J.P. Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, and BlackRock. There is no better way to jump start your internship or job search. Note: 100% attendance expected for successful completion of the course. Engineering students can apply for the "Day on the Street" Trip without taking 180.104 Financial Literacy. They must still submit all registration materials and course fees by the registration deadlines. Course/trip attendees will be made by faculty selection. Priority will be given to juniors and sophomores.
