The first SCALE will be held mid-June through August 2009 in Baltimore, Maryland at the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence. Johns Hopkins Univeristy—applications being accepted NOW If you are: We welcome you to apply for participation in this unique annual program at the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence (HLTCOE) at the Johns Hopkins University. The Summer Camp for Applied Language Exploration (SCALE) will take place every summer, beginning in 2009. Multiple positions are available. The openings are for top researchers - undergraduate students to graduate students, post-docs, faculty ranging up to emeritus professors, and industrial researchers. For highly qualified candidates, the salaries are competitive with the best summer positions with commercial companies, and the research environment is comparable to the best academic laboratories. What is essential is the ability to do innovative research on challenging open-ended problems. Furthermore, prior work in human language technology is not a requirement. We are actively recruiting people from many fields to give us the fresh perspective needed to generate exceptional, innovative ideas. Candidates should have excellent programming skills plus a solid background in mathematics, a science, or engineering, but top thinkers and innovators in any field are welcome to apply. HLTCOE seeks to engage bright minds from a variety of fields to provide a fresh perspective on challenging speech and language problems for the SCALE program. As part of SCALE, you will live and work near the beautiful Johns Hopkins University campus. Only US citizens may apply.
